Fall in Love

Happy Sunday! I finished a bunch of errands AND got a surprise ticket to tomorrow's Phantogram show at 9:30 Club! See y'all there!

me: I may or may not hold your hand and cry when they play “Fall in Love.”
Naty: Uhhh I will most likely cry so no judgement.

Side note, awesome day in New York yesterday, photos soon. I'm trying to post photos in a timely fashion after events, then again I never posted about Jamaica and that was in April so...there's that.

just barely Thursday morning

sounds like: American Horror Story/Freak Show (Scary clowns. No.). Could I Be coming home with Sylvan Esso? Current favorite driving song: Bang Bang by the Monophonics.  Will You, Daniel Wilson, will you? Supreme guilty pleasure song, though def can't blast this one down the streets of Old Town: Lil Dicky's Ex-Boyfriend

tastes like: Hot wasabi spiced peanuts. Black garlic from Union Market, though I don't know what to do with it yet.

feels like: I turn 31 on Saturday. I'm throwing an ice cream social because I'm an adult and I make adult life decisions. In all realness, I'm excited to spend a nice (maybe rainy) afternoon eating ice cream—cough-photographing ice cream—with my best friends. I've also decided to design menus after shindigs such as this one - keep my personal design skills fresh, ya know?

smells like: dried lavender and perfume on my pillowcase. It's time for bed.

Esso and Etto. Play it right.

Sylvan Esso at The Howard Theater. Phenom.

Burrata and lemony kale salad at Etto on 14th.
Some marvelous rye cocktail and pizza with anchovies, dandelion greens, and a runny egg. I mean, come on.

and if there's anything good about me - I'm the only one who knows

I seem to have caught some kind of bug—perhaps developed a ragweed allergy, summer to fall season change malady, who knows—I've been sleeping on and off all day and, save for water I drink when I take cold meds, I haven't had anything to eat or drink today. I know I say this all the time (at least whenever I get sick which, thankfully, is rare) but I am all kinds of whiny and pathetic when I'm sick, like why isn't someone at my bedside mopping my brow with a cool washcloth? Who do I have to sweet eye to bring me soup and Florence Nightingale me into health? Come on, I make good pancakes.

This was my day: ughhhhhhhhhh, ok ok ok work times, what should I wear today? Should I go to work? I feel absolutely weary. Maybe I'll stay home. If I stay home then I can take it easy. Ok, I'll let them know I'm not going in. Maybe I should do laundry and clean. Sleep for three hours. Oh, goody, 15 text messages. Sleep for an hour. Oh, Todd Thrasher calling me now. Hiiii, Todd! No, I'm not at the Fair, I'm sick today. What? You need a cocktail sign for that benefit at Volt? I gotchu! Design sign, sleep for next three hours. Oh, Castle's playing, I've never seen Castle, maybe I'll watch Castle. Fall asleep during Castle. You had dinner with Lynne, Justin? I miss Lynne! No, I haven't eaten anything all day. Ugh, because I don't feel like it. Let me hop on a computer, I haven't really checked the things all day. Jack White singing in a French château? Done.

On the upside, the "sick times" tag on Lemonade Lists can be quite hilarious after the fact. I should retitle it, “the ramblings of a madwoman on cold meds she probably doesn't need to be taking.”

I'm not gonna be yours right now, 'cause I'll never be yours no how

A sweet slow summer jam given to me by Pink Robot Boogaloo. Def going on my beach playlist. Side note, hitting up Tilghman Island for the day tomorrow. Perfect timing, S.

Thursday morning

sounds like: Hearing it through the grapevine with the Kaiser Chiefs and rockin' The Feeling with The Knocks (nonstop dance party ftw on Monday). You See Me, babe?

tastes like: Toothpaste. I just brushed my teeth. I wish I had time to bake a mess of biscuits.

feels like: So much to do before this weekend's Mid-Atlantic Food Writer's Symposium. It would figure that I have double managers' meetings today too. Ah well, looks like I'm going in early and leaving late. Life is pretty sweet otherwise. No complaints, other than bedroom being messy - but let's be honest, I complain about that any chance I get. That's what happens when you constantly have projects on your brain (and on your desk).

smells like: Lemon perfume. Feeling fresh.

Tonight! ASTR + The Knocks

9:30 Club, doors open at 7. You should be there, because I'm going to be there.

'cause I'm a good girl and you know it.

but that's just how I feel

Discovered this song on Spotify's Mood Booster playlist and haven't looked back since. Such a great song to listen to while I design all the things and tweet all the tweets.

Record Store Day 2014: Oberhofer, Doc Martens, and Nicholas Cage

1. Canal Square, Georgetown
2. Cowboy boots in the Dr. Martens store
3. “Don't distract me, vina. I have to concentrate.” Steph digging at Hill & Dale Records
4. I'll be taking these Huggies and whatever cash ya got.

You could say she's excited about Record Store Day.

Steph: I'm looking at Hill & Dale Records' list of special RSD releases and I'm kind of so excited I want to throw up a little. I'm only in the C's too. (thirty seconds later) omg Everly Brothers.

easy thief

Cleaning all the things tonight. I just organized and sleeved about a hundred business cards I've accumulated over the past year. I'll probably be all kinds of slap happy tomorrow but hey, until then, this song and some 2 AM sock folding. Upside, I'll get to see this blood moon eclipse I've heard about all day. Aside from the Twilight connotations, I'm pumped.

update: “Tonight will be the first of four eclipses this year and, as NASA reports, is in prime viewing location for people in North and South America. Unfortunately, due to heavy cloud cover expected over D.C. and the East Coast, it will be especially difficult to see it. Tonight's eclipse occurs when the Moon's "orbital trajectory takes it through the southern half of Earth's umbral shadow." The entire eclipse will last approximately 78 minutes, starting at about 1:58 a.m., with the eclipse reaching totality at around 3:07 a.m. Even though you (probably) won't be able to see it tonight, NASA will be live-streaming the eclipse here.”

Way to harsh my mellow, DCist.

a beatbox imaginary in the show, all your shell-toes lined up in a row

)

1 AM thoughts:
  • This song is damn catchy.
  • Do I want to eat the leftover Crawfish Monica? Mmmmayyybe.
  • Extra Strength Bengay is no joke. I think my skin is melting. Now I know what it must feel like to drink from the wrong chalice.
  • Today was a good social media for the restaurants. I love it when my phone blows up from all the retweets and tags. The multimedia maven is happy. Tomorrow is a busy day. No, this week is a busy week. Hell, this year is a busy year. Thank goodness for weekend naps. What time do I have to be at the Fair on Friday? Six AM? Ah shiiiiiiii
  • I'm so excited for Chef Ryan's baby gift to get here. Please, please, please let it arrive soon. (Tell me you picked up what I just put down.)
  • Midnight blue might be my favorite color. It only took thirty years to figure that out.
  • Fuckit, I'm going to eat the Crawfish Monica.
G'night, all.

Snow Daze & Street Food

Working from home today is bearable since pancakes make everything better. I'm also making potato-bacon chowder later if anyone wants to strap on their snowshoes and trek over. Side note, Mayer Hawthorne, as much as I adore you, I just might have to miss your show tonight at 9:30 Club. Oh, don't worry, I'm not happy about it at all, aside from the “at least I don't have to drive in the snopocalypse” thing. I suppose it Just Ain't Gonna Work Out.

the beginning of wednesday

sounds like: I've listened to Ki:Theory's Stand By Me on repeat for over an hour now (play count: 29). I'll listen to this song if I ever walk down mean city streets in the rain and dressed all in black like I'm John Constantine. You should listen to it too. Pretty please.

tastes like: Coffee at the Fair and coconut milk yogurt at the traffic lights during my morning commute. I sampled the new (and secret!) Filipino entrée at Restaurant Eve

feels like: New projects on the horizon: I was asked to shoot Baker Nathan & Chef Margaret's wedding next May (squeeeeee), preliminary photo meetings about the April wedding in Jamaica and ten shades of excitement from just the conceptualization of my personal logo, website, and redesign of my book. So much to do, so little time. Did I mention that I used a new fabric softener on my bedsheets and my bed has reached a new level of “I never want to leave”-dom?  It's the little things in life, man.

smells like: Jasmine perfume. I give no fucks this time. Ok, that's a total lie but whatevs.
