lady bones

The wonderful thing about having creative friends and being handy with a camera is that they occasionally ask you to photograph their handiwork. Libby, of Hello It's Libby, recently produced an adorable zine (lady bones, soon to be available here) and asked me to snap a few product shots. Uh, of course! We photographed them in Cherry Hill Park (thanks to Russian Rachel for the location suggestion) on a very cold winter afternoon and two of us were wearing ugly Christmas sweaters. The brown/cream paper and handstitched binding looked so good against tree stumps and sand patterns. Keep an eye out for it, folks.

totally twenty eleven

2011 was an amazing year: I ate shrimp & grits in Charleston and picked peaches in Maryland. We drank alcoholic slushies on the streets of Savannah and went ghost hunting in Harper's Ferry. Four of my good friends got married and I had the honor of being a bridesmaid for one of them. There were epic blanket forts, fog art installation pieces, and Belgian waffle parties. I saw Bon Iver, The Rosebuds, Childish Gambino, sosupersam, Walk The Moon, and Fitz and the Tantrums live. I missed a bus to New York but rode a trolley in Georgia. I photographed the ocean from the top of a lighthouse on Long Beach Island, ate roasted brussel sprouts and banana pudding in Richmond, and baked gingerbread men at an ugly Christmas sweater party.

This year has pretty much been perfect. 2012, you have some big shoes to fill.

(and I totally used Justin's beautiful face as the thumbnail so I would get more hits on the video. No shame).

H Street Festival: food trucks, dancing in the street, debauchery, and ALL THE HIPSTERS

Ginnie
That light was amazing.

G liked him because he was covering Taylor Swift. Ok.
Where we spent the rest of the evening with sake, sushi, and 90s dance songs. Ginnie tried to work up the courage to talk to the adorable host. My face was slightly accosted by a drunk hipster who started a bar fight after I wouldn't give him my number. To quote Justin, my beauty incites riots. We were stranded at Huntingon Station and Justin rescued us. You can't say my life is boring.

Earthquake?

I didn't feel the earthquake. I was walking to the gym and listening to the Muppets episode of The Nerdist podcast when Pa called to see if I was ok. Huh, that explains why that lady was running out of her house and yelling in Spanish. I just thought she was having some kind of domestic dispute. I'm slightly disappointed that I missed all the excitement. Glad everyone is ok!

Neon Trees and thimblefuls of chili

We saw Neon Trees (sort of. I was standing behind tall guys.)
Taste over ten types of chili? Yeah, ok.
They keep it classy up in there.
Roundhouse kick to my tastebuds.

Happy pi mai!!!!

Bee tee dubs, pi = year, mai = new, and sprinkling/spraying/throwing/supersoaking water on people is considered good luck. Happy Lao New Year, everyone!

Ringing in the new year with Russians and carbonara

NYE recap:
- Driving circles around the Adams Morgan area trying to get to Ginnie & Christian's. I hate you, NYE clusterfucks!
- Carbonara, charcuterie, bruschetta and strawberry shortcake.
- Russia House. Accidentally celebrating the new year a minute before the actual countdown. Stupid DJ.
- Copious amounts of vodka in a very short amount of time.
- When the hell did I skin my knee?
- Oh, look. Public vomiting.
- So this is a hangover.
- Pho for lunch? Perfect.
